Shine A Light
This collaborative project between Arder, architect Aaron Jones, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the Manistique Community Treehouse Block Club, and Distributed Power solar company demonstrates the possibility for art and design to fill gaps in civic infrastructure. The project doubles as a greenhouse by day, and a hub for projections and film screenings at night. The permanent solar array not only supports the electronics in the structure, but also acts as a community charging station when the grid fails. This happens often in this Detroit neighborhood where heavy rains cause flooding.
The project launch included projections of video portraits of legendary Detroiters captured by renowned filmmakers Julie Dash and David Claessen, with the production help of Arder.
